	Learning Centre

	The Hospital will house a university-affiliated library and learning centre, promoting research, training, and retention of health professionals. This space will contain the most up-to-date medical resources in the Fraser Valley. In addition, the Library will be an extension of the BC Cancer Agency’s Main Library in Vancouver, equipping physicians and oncologists with the latest information on disease management and new treatments. Cancer patients will be able to access information about their condition, written in accessible language.

Community learning services offered include:

Access to health literature on evidence-based practices
Use of internet and e-based learning approaches, including a virtual library
A focus on patient and family education

Enhanced facilities include:

Patient and staff teaching rooms in virtually every unit of the Hospital
Video conferencing to allow medical professionals across Fraser East to conduct virtual case assessments with colleagues around the province

Future Health Care Professionals

The new Hospital and Cancer Centre will offer educational opportunities for health care professionals to experience the newest hospital in Canada. In addition to enhancing health care research and practices, these educational opportunities will serve as a means of attracting and retaining some of the best and brightest physicians, specialists, and nurses nationally and internationally.

Partnerships have been formed with local colleges and universities and we anticipate these will expand once the hospital opens. The following student practicum, residence, and placement programs have already been solidified:

Linkages to the UBC’s Medical Program Expansion
Lab Technologists from UBC
Pharmacy students from universities and colleges from across the province
Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy student placements
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) placements from local and provincial colleges
Medical students completing residencies and fellowships with ARHCC physicians


Green Design

The new Hospital is an energy-efficient, user-focused facility based on international best practices in health care facility design. As a result, there will be substantial energy costs savings annually. The facility will be awarded Silver Status for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design , as defined by the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC).
