Who We Are
We believe meaningful improvement depends on trusted relationships, shared learning and ongoing collaboration. That’s why we work alongside the people closest to care, elevating perspectives that make excellent care possible — including those of patients and caregivers, First Nations, Inuit and Métis partners, and the health workforce.
We convene and connect people across the country to spread and scale quality and safety improvements, strengthen capacity and collective leadership, and catalyze policy and practice change.
Practical and action-oriented, we focus on solutions that make a real difference. We listen deeply, respond quickly to the needs and priorities we hear, and stay open and curious as we learn. We’re guided by a simple principle: nothing about you should be designed without you.
Together, we’re helping good ideas travel further and faster — so more people benefit.
How We Work
Lasting improvement doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when people are connected, supported and able to learn from one another and act together.
Our work comes to life through three interconnected paths to impact.
Spread and Scale Quality and Safety Improvements

Strengthen Capacity and Collective Leadership

Catalyze Policy and Practice Change
:quality(80))
We convene people, evidence and lived experience to inform policies and practices that enable better care.
By bringing people, evidence and lived experience together we help shape systems that enable safer, higher-quality care. We do this by creating spaces where evidence, lived experience and system leadership come together. This happens through national and regional networks, collaboratives and policy-focused activities.

Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
Healthcare Excellence Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan provides a roadmap for the work HEC will undertake to live up to our commitments and continue developing our ability to help shape a future where everyone in Canada has safe and high-quality healthcare.
Launched in 2021, Healthcare Excellence Canada brings together the Canadian Patient Safety Institute and the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement.
We are an independent, not-for-profit charity funded primarily by Health Canada.
