Across Canada, teams are working in new ways to expand access to primary care and improve how care is delivered. This investment will help them go further — strengthening the connection between quality improvement, research and evidence.

Through Care Forward, teams are already testing practical approaches, learning from one another, and making a difference in their communities. This partnership will help accelerate that work.

This is what it looks like when people, evidence and action come together to move care forward.

  • “Better healthcare begins with better research. Overall, this work will help ensure that evidence-backed, innovative primary care solutions are put into place to improve primary care for Canadians. This initiative is an excellent example of how when we work together, we can improve health outcomes and access for Canadians across the country.”

  • “CIHR is proud to support research that strengthens primary care and helps close gaps in access. By partnering with Healthcare Excellence Canada and leveraging the leadership of the Canadian Primary Care Research Consortium, we are ensuring solutions are grounded in evidence and shaped by the needs of people and communities.”

  • “Care Forward is about people and organizations working together to improve care for more people across the country. In partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Canadian Primary Care Research Consortium, we’re helping primary and community care teams apply evidence and practical experience to expand access and deliver care, when and where it’s needed.”

    Moving Care Forward

In spring of 2025, HEC launched a pan-Canadian movement of people sharing knowledge and applying proven approaches to improve healthcare quality and safety for at least one million people across the country.
