Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC) supports the advancement of First Nations, Inuit and Métis priorities and culturally safe and equitable care in three program areas: Truth and Reconciliation, First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Northern health system partnerships, and addressing systemic racism and supporting cultural safety.

The Nursing Home Without Walls program helps nursing and LTC homes support older adults to age in place with access to essential services and support.

Launched in 2017 in Quebec, the Optimizing Practices, Use, Care and Services - Antipsychotics (OPUS-AP) collaborative aims to reduce or discontinue the inappropriate use of antipsychotic medications in long-term care centres. Phase 3 will integrate the PEPS program (Projet d'évaluation de la personnalisation des soins infirmiers, médicaux et pharmaceutiques), leading to the rollout of the approach for the optimal use of medications in long-term care centres in all of the province’s CHSLDs, as well as in long-term care homes and alternative homes.

The Paramedics and Social Prescribing program helps paramedic teams implement social prescribing to connect people with non-medical social and community supports that improve health and well-being.

Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC) and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (the Partnership) partnered to deliver the Paramedics and Palliative Care program, bringing vital in-home palliative approaches to care to people in Canada living with cancer and other life-limiting conditions – when they need it and where they want it.

Virtual care is growing rapidly across the country as more primary care providers use technology to deliver healthcare. That’s why Healthcare Excellence Canada has launched an initiative to help care providers and patients work together to ensure virtual care is provided in an appropriate, safe and equitable way.

HEC’s approach to engagement with patients, caregivers, and communities, has been co-developed with patient partners, staff and leaders to ensure purposeful, inclusive and diverse engagement practice.

Primary Care Access Improvement (PCAI) supports team-based primary care organizations to improve access to care using the Advanced Access model, so that patients receive timely, appropriate care while maintaining continuity with their care team.
