Jennifer Symon is a registered nurse whose passion for family presence at patient bedside grew after caring for her husband, as he battled a rare disease in hospital. Jennifer now works with the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Engagement and Patient Experience department.

At Healthcare Excellence Canada, we’ve been putting together resources for dealing with online harassment (below) that we hope will be useful for those affected and their allies. We hope that you haven’t experienced this problem personally, but if you have – or you know someone who has – we hope that you’ll find useful tools and advice in this collection.

The Thunderbird Partnership Foundation is a non-profit organization and respected as a leader in First Nations in addressing substance use issues and mental health. We are committed to working with First Nations to further the capacity of communities to address substance use and mental health issues through promotion of a holistic approach to healing and wellness that values culture, respect, collaboration, community, and compassion. One of our top priorities is developing a continuum of care that would be available to all First Nations people in Canada.

My sense of time has shifted in the past year. I’ve divided things up into the “before-times,” “pre-pandemic,” the “between-times” where we find ourselves now, and the “after-times” to come when we’ll have put the between times behind us.

Since its inception in 2006, Patients for Patient Safety Canada (PFPSC) has championed the patient voice and shared lived experiences to advance patient safety. Today, I am pleased to congratulate PFPSC members as we celebrate the 15th Anniversary of this vibrant and energetic network.

To everyone committed to the pursuit of healthcare excellence: You’ve come to the right place. Healthcare Excellence Canada is an organization with a relentless focus on improving healthcare, with – and for – everyone in Canada, connecting the power of people and evidence. It’s about shaping the future of healthcare quality and safety. Together.

In the end, it all boils down to finding a name that reflects and honours all of this. True, a name that does not make you who you are, but when brought to life with partners, it definitely sets you in the right direction to begin to make a name for this organization that includes all of us. Because of who we are, what we will do – and mostly, how we will do it.
